Week 3 Assignment

The initial idea was to make a multiplayer map inspired by the breakout mode in Halo 5.

Messed around with the idea of rotating bases.

Scrapped that idea and focused on making a level like these from Super Mario 64.

Minecraft level

This image ^ is the final level from a top down perspective.

My initial idea for the level was inspired by a warzone map in Halo 5 where a colony was mining in the middle of the ocean and they used force fields to repel the water in order to mine. Once I had the scale of the level mapped out with water I thought about what should be in the open space and had the idea of little floating islands with a volcano at the bottom. I started to make the islands and the highest island was sort of like a wood mill with a few chopped trees and a small lake. I was mostly just playing around with what I had and thought the wood mill would be a cool idea. Then in the lower levels there is a snowy island with a hidden area that you can only see from a certain angle when you're near the wood mill. I put an attractive cube there to symbolize that the player found something secret. And the last island, which was the lowest, was also snowy but had a river of lava down the middle since it was closest to the volcano. Overall I really like the way the level turned out.

For the first assignment I was mostly focusing on trying to make a short platforming level rather than making it pretty.
